Alberta Public Libraries Day of Action

Join us for the Alberta Public Libraries Day of Action on October 1, 2026. Bill 28 and its changes to the Libraries Act and Libraries Regulations will have widespread repercussions on library services you access every day, regardless of your age. Starting January 1 2027, Albertan public libraries will be required to mediate access to provincially restricted materials, which include DVDs, video games, books and computers. On October 1 2026, learn more about book bans across North America, talk with our library board and director about how libraries work, and connect with our Friends of the Library group, who help advocate for and fund CPL. Libraries across Alberta will be coming together to screen the "The Librarians", (an Emmy-award winning documentary that is not yet available on streaming services) at the same time, followed by a lively discussion featuring special guests (to be announced). The Librarians is recommended for viewers 14+ due to strong language and mature subject matter.
